Florida Man Weekly Roundup: Sheriff Seeks Owner of 18 Kilos of Beach Cocaine β€” October 2, 2026

Another Friday, another week of Florida Man refusing to let the rest of America have a normal news cycle. Kick off the flip-flops, crack something cold, and enjoy this week's finest.

🧳 Sheriff Ivey Runs the World's Most Generous Lost & Found

A passerby found 18 kilos (nearly 40 pounds) of cocaine washed up along the Brevard County coast, wrapped in watertight packaging "brilliantly branded" with a jaguar logo. Sheriff Wayne Ivey took to Facebook to help find the "rightful owner," inviting them to swing by the Criminal Investigative Services building in Rockledge to claim it β€” "absolutely no strings attached." The deal even includes an all-expenses-paid staycation at "Ivey's Iron Bar Lodge," better known as the county jail. Strangely, no one has come forward yet.

πŸ₯‘ 108 MPH, a Blunt, and a Wallet Hidden in Leftovers

A Flagler County deputy clocked a rental car flying up I-95 at 108 mph, walked up, and found the passenger casually holding a burnt blunt. He claimed he had no ID on him β€” until deputies found a grocery bag holding a Styrofoam takeout box, holding a wallet wrapped in garbage, holding his ID and his weed. A Russian nesting doll of bad decisions. Both men went to jail; the leftovers' condition is unknown.

🏰 For Sale: $12M Island Castle, Alligator Moat Included

Every Florida Man dreams of a castle. Bannon Island β€” 24 acres in the middle of Polk County's Lake Marion near Haines City β€” has no bridge, no road, and a moat full of gators. It's been in Dr. Patrick O'Leary's family for about 150 years and is now listed at $12 million. Asked what it's like to have an alligator moat around your castle, he laughed: "Just as it should be." Boat, seaplane, or helicopter required. Moat-crossing courage sold separately.

As if the Everglades' most notorious invaders weren't enough, USGS researchers published a study this month documenting Burmese pythons climbing cypress and live oak trees to bask in the sun during cooler months. The upside? Scientists say knowing where they lounge could help hunters find them. Florida Man tip of the week: look up.

Ending on a good boy: Punta Gorda Police Marine Volunteers Mark Williams and Cheri Marx were out on patrol Wednesday when they found Midnight, a senior pup who'd fallen into a canal. They hauled him back to safety and he's doing great. Heroes don't always wear capes β€” sometimes they wear life vests.
